monday night commentary

today got away from me but i didn't want to forget to post my brother [in law]'s sermon notes because it was super convicting and it highlighted another one of our core values.

let me introduce you... this is my brother [in law] landon:)

he has this cool blog and he shares this one with my husband and he makes this cool music.:) he's sooo cool:)

his message had four simple points about the core value of generosity.

what do I deserve? nothing.
what do I have? something.
what should i give? my best.
we should give in response to how great God is.

it all came out of 1 chronicles 29.

the sentence i loved best from his talk was,'don't give to be seen. don't give to feel good about yourself. give because you love God.'

i'd like to grow in my generosity and the motives in my heart dealing with generosity. how about you?

monday morning commentary.

last week the core value Luke shared was Expectant...

this week the core value is

be intentional.
[something that sounds familiar because it's one of our family values.]

he spoke from one of my fave passages : psalm 1.

he talked about three ways to live intentionally.
1. stay pure.
i thought this was interesting: Luke recently read a study that said you become like the average of the top five people you're around.

2. stay connected
reading the Word is the single most intentional thing you can do.

3. stay faithful.
i loved what he said about staying faithful.... everyone can start new things, very few finish. point: don't waste your life... stay faithful to what you believe and living intentionally for it.

how do you live intentionally?
I've learned that the Sabbath is an intentional day to rest. I can do everything in 6 days. I do need rest. God made me that way. It's an intentional choice I have to make [that is against the grain of the rest of the world] but if I make that choice my family and I will be well served.

monday afternoon commentary.

Expectant.

that's the word that luke preached about last night. it's the first of the six core values of
harvest students.

He spoke from Mark 11.
And he brought about three questions we should ask ourselves...

1. is my sin bigger than my faith?

2. is my doubt bigger than my faith?

3. is my 'list' bigger than my faith?
[my 'list' being the things that i want and ask for selfishly]

i think his most powerful point was when he said when we pray for something, we pray but don't pray with expectancy because of the terrifying fear of rejection, because we want to do everything ourselves, and because we know that the things that we are asking God for are kind of dumb. But, what if, just what if we lived out a faith that leans out without a back-up plan.

i think we'd see some miracles....
i know at our house, we're praying more expectantly... will you?
