monday afternoon commentary

this weekend my mister got to preach in BIG church!!!

he got the privilege of bringing God's Word to the Harvest people a few weeks back at the Rolling Meadows Campus and this week at the Elgin campus!  What a huge responsibility...

He preached from Romans 13:11-14
Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed.   The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.

of course I thought it was a great message because it was faithful to God's Word and preached by the man i love but there were a few key points that i loved that he taught.

when a person is asleep spiritually, they're not who they want to be.  Therefore, we need to wake up

we need to grow up out of our childish ways- including spoon-fed Christianity, spiritual cynicism & roller coaster-like faith.

we need to give up the things that are not Christ-like... interestingly enough that the same things the Roman church {who this letter was written to} was struggling with the very same things that we do today.... hmm...

we have to look up because we don't have within us the power to work through our weakness... we have to put on Jesus.

the key point of the message was this sentence:

until the pain of not changing is greater than the pain of changing... I'll never change.

i was convicted about some things in my life.... i love that God's Word is living in active.
grateful to be serving the Lord with my man,
kg

I had the joy of hearing Luke's message from the Chicago North campus! I loved his points about growing up in our faith and how we're not who we WANT to be when we're asleep in our walk with Christ! Such a blessing to hear him speak! I love reading your blog and hearing about your family! God bless.

What a joy to hear Luke's message this weekend!! It was amazing - and really gave me a good wake-up call on some things in my life. I'm so thankful for such a God-honoring, bold, truth-proclaiming church! I loved that Luke didn't shy away from stuff and that he declared the truths of God's Word in such a great way. He's very much like his dad, but also all his own, and we love that so much! Please tell him it was an encouragement and a wake-up call sorely needed for so many! So thankful for what God is doing at Harvest!!

Praise God for you, Luke, and your family - what a blessing you all are!
