christmas in august

i LOVE christmas. I love that we celebrate because of Jesus' birth. i love the decorations. i love the family time. i love the traditions... really, there's not much about christmas I don't love.

but, as i am reading through Isaiah right now and came upon the prophecy of the baby to be born and as we look to Luke to share the prophecy become fact...i stand in perfect awe that the prophecy came true so precisely.

Isaiah 9:6- 7 says, "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this."

Luke 2:7 says, "And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn."

Luke 2:11 says, "For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger."

Luke 2:16-17 says, "And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child."

the point is that Jesus was born to teach people in a tangible way the love of Christ and to tell of salvation and how it would come. He lived a life free of sin and paid the price for us once on the cross. We know this is true because history recalls it just as a map is laid out...clear as day.

yes, i celebrate christmas in december but do i celebrate the joy of knowing a Wonderful Counselor, a Mighty God, an Everlasting Father, and a Prince of Peace on a monthly, weekly, daily basis? Heck, this is the best news all day... i can celebrate Christmas all year long! Now, it's just convincing Luke to allow me to keep the Christmas tree up all year long;)

Dwell on the amazing birth of Jesus today and the promises it holds. Jesus' birth brings great freedom & joy!
merry 'august' christmas,
kg:)
